No. Your skin is too irritated to attend a tattoo appointment. Even if the sunburn only becomes visible on the day of your appointment, we will have to cancel it and retain your deposit. It is best to avoid excessive sun before your tattoo appointment.

After your tattoo appointment, we will explain what you need to bear in mind and you will receive care instructions to take home with you.

Normal showering is no problem for the fresh tattoo. However, you should not soap or scrub it with normal soap. The tattoo must be washed with pH-neutral shower gel using light pressure to remove any ointment residue.

Normally, yes. A tattoo is similar to an abrasion and should not be a restriction at work. If your job involves a lot of physical activity (furniture mover or fitness instructor), you may want to take a few days off.

We strongly advise against this. During sport, the skin moves a lot and also rubs against clothing. This can cause small tears in the tattoo, which can lead to loss of color or even scarring. You should only return to sport once the crust has completely disappeared. This can take 1.5 to 2 weeks.

You should not bathe for 3-4 weeks after the tattoo appointment (until the scab is completely gone). This is because the crust dissolves in the water, which can lead to loss of color or inflammation of the wound. Chlorinated water can also damage the pigments.

The tattoo heals on the surface after approx. 4-6 weeks. However, it can take 1-6 years for the tattoo to completely heal in depth.

Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled after 4-6 weeks, once the tattoo has healed on the surface.

It is advisable not to go out in the sun or in a solarium for 3-4 weeks after stitching. This can cause the tattoo to become inflamed or fade.

To protect healed tattoos, it is best to use sun cream factor 50+ (with protection against UV-A & UV-B rays) or cover your tattoo to prevent it from being exposed to the sun in the first place. We have a sun cream specially developed for tattoos. Just get in touch with us.

It is perfectly possible and normal for a tattoo to fade or run over the years. This is because the skin over your tattoo lives, works and gets older. This is why your tattoo looks paler over time. Depending on your skin type and how much time you spend in the sun, your skin will age earlier. This can cause your tattoo to fade or run.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to donate blood 4 months after getting a tattoo. You can find more information on the DRK blood donation page.
